The third-generation Toyota Yaris officially entered the assembly line of the French plant of the Japanese manufacturer from Valenciennes. As mentioned in the title, the small Japanese model reached its third generation bringing a more aggressive approach and also increased dimensions. The Valenciennes plant is responsible of producing the model since 1999 when the first generation entered the market.
At the moment, Yaris is the best selling model of Toyota in Europe and the new generation has all it takes to continue this tradition of very good sales.
The exterior and interior design clearly shows an evolution and has all the ingredients to remain Toyota’s best selling model in Europe. In terms of size, we know that is 3,89 meters long, has a wheelbase of 2,51 meters and a trunk capacity of 286 liters which ensures both sufficient passengers and luggage space. Talking about engine options, Toyota offers two gasoline and one diesel unit while a hybrid version of the new Yaris is expected to debut next year.
The entry-level engine is a 1.0-liter VVT-I able to produce 69 horsepower while the other option is a 1.3-liter VVT-I offering 99 horses. The fuel-efficient diesel unit is the D-4D being able to deliver 90 horsepower and coupled either to a manual transmission or a MultiMode gearbox. The 1.3-liter VVT-I unit will be available with a manual transmission but also with the Multidrive 7-S gearbox.
From the other features of the new Toyota Yaris we can mention the new panoramic glass roof and the rear camera which helps when doing parking maneuvers. The first model rolled off the production line was the three-door variant equipped with the 1.0-liter VVT-I petrol unit.
“I’m very proud of the new Yaris. Since the start of the project, all TMMF members have shown the highest level of commitment to deliver a vehicle with the best possible levels of quality to continue building on the Yaris success story in Europe, and the bright future of TMMF,” Makoto Sano, President of TMMF said.
