The Italians from Fiat officially revealed the high-performance version of the current Fiat 500, a model which enters the U.S. market at full throttle being equipped with a 1.4-liter MultiAir engine developing 160 horses and 230 Nm of torque.
The U.S.-spec model is more powerful than the European model which uses a four-cylinder 135-horsepower engine. The Fiat 500 Abarth will be available with a five-speed manual transmission but also with the company’s Torque Transfer Control system.
“Bringing the 2012 Fiat 500 Abarth to the U.S. enables us to reach out to driving enthusiasts who want Italian performance at an attainable price,” said Olivier Francois, Head of Fiat.
The appearance of the Italian model is improved by a set of 17-inch alloy wheels fitted with Pirelli P-Zero Nero tires, styling front and rear bumpers and also bespoke exterior graphics. Inside, Fiat offers leather and Alcantara, aluminium pedals and sport seats.
The pricing for the 2012 Fiat 500 Abarth in the U.S. is still unknown but the company will release all the needed information soon. Until then, take a look at the new photo gallery revealed by the Italian car maker.
