The Germans from Smart decided to unveil the third-generation of ForTwo Electric Drive, a model which comes with small dimensions to fit better the crowded cities along with an electric motor that makes the vehicle eco-friendly. Dr. Annette Winkler, head of Smart said: “It has always been a pioneer of urban mobility and with the new electric drive it is once again setting standards with even more driving fun and environmental compatibility.”
The new ForTwo EV is powered by an electric engine able to deliver 74 horsepower and 130 Nm of torque. It manages to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 13 seconds and achieves a top speed of 120 km/h.
According to the official details, the new Smart ForTwo comes with a driving range of 140 kilometers while the full charge takes eight hours on a standard outlet. Using a fast charger, the waiting time drops to around 30 minutes. The Germans plan to sell the new Smart ForTwo in over 30 different countries while the sales target is somewhere around 10,000 units.
Of course, the debut is scheduled for the upcoming Frankfurt Auto Show this fall while the model will go on sale in the early 2012. Pricing is not available yet but it will be released soon.
