The Americans from General Motors decided to reveal more information about the new Chevrolet Malibu, a model which arrives in the U.S. early next year. One of the engines which will be available with the new Malibu is a newly developed 2.5-liter Ecotec unit which will replace the slightly smaller 2.4-liter engine.
According to the new details, the new four-cylinder engine is able to deliver 190 horsepower and 250 Nm of torque which is slightly more than the outgoing unit. “Engineers also tuned the 2.5L to deliver more of its torque at lower rpm, giving the Malibu a stronger feel at launch and during on-demand maneuvers, such as passing or accelerating on a freeway entrance ramp,” adds GM.
Therefore, the new 2.5-liter engine delivers 12% more power but still keeps the fuel consumption figures at a decent level. To be more precise, the new engine returns a highway fuel efficiency of 7,8 liters/100 km (30mpg).
Moreover, General Motors says the engineers managed to reduce the noise intensity by near 40% over the outgoing 2.4-liter Ecotec unit. This is great news mainly considering that the 2.4-liter engine has already secured many awards for its performance.
