A very interesting rumor has popped up regarding the 2012 Detroit Motor Show, the first major event to kick of the new year.
It seems that the battle between Ford and GM will soon get even more exciting as Chevrolet’s already announced Camaro ZL1 convertible could face a Blue Oval menace at the show.
This menace would be the 2013 Ford Mustang GT500 Convertible, a drop top version of the incredibly powerful pony car.
At this point, all we have on the convertible Mustang GT500 is a few rumors coming in. Not exactly the best sort of information available but nevertheless.
We expect the rag top version of the new GT500 to come with the same sort of engine as its coupe brethren.
That means it’ll be powered by a supercharged 5.8 liter V8 engine with 650 horsepower.
Actually, most of what the 2013 Ford Mustang GT500 Convertible is about will be very similar to the story the coupe has for us.
The only differences are expected to come in in the weight and stability. Since the open top version will have a deficit on these aspects the acceleration times should suffer, just like the handling attributes.
Lastly, having a rag top will very likely make the 2013 Ford Mustang GT500 Convertible less aerodynamic. Thus, we expect the glorious 200 mph sticker the coupe has to fall off.
With this picture in mind, even in rumored form, 2012 looks like quite the the year to look forward to, even from its very first month.
