The North-American carmaker Ford is planning the introduction of a new and more powerful engine on the 2017 Ford F-150 pickup truck.
According to close sources to Ford, the all-new F-150 would receive a 3.5-liter EcoBoost engine, mated to a ten-speed gearbox, for improved acceleration and performance.
The decision comes after Ford managed to sell 70,000 F-150s two months in a row, starting April. The all-new 3.5-liter EcoBoost will also develop an additional 30 lb-ft of torque, for a total of 450 lb-ft of torque.
As for the engine`s performance, the brand-new EcoBoost V6 will offer better torque, achieved via the company`s first dual-direct and port fuel-injection system, along with powerful turbochargers with twin turbos and updated turbine wheel.
Other attributes for the 3.5-liter EcoBoost would be the improved fuel-consumption and reduced CO2 emissions, adding the new auto start-stop system coming as standard.
As for the 10-speed transmission, this will help the new 2017 F-150 truck to improve its performance, thanks to the lightweight materials, smarter shift logic or the new real-time-adaptive shift-scheduling algorithms to ensure the perfect gear selection at the right time.
Concerning prices, the company has not revealed any new info, but we might guess a higher tag for the entire powertrain configuration.
