If you own a 2012 Ford Taurus, a 2013 Ford Explorer or a 2012 Ford Lincoln MKS, you might want to avoid crashing it.
According to NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration), the fuel tanks on these models has an improper seam deemed too weak to withstand the forces of an impact. The fuel tanks in question were installed between July 19th 2011 and March 15th, 2012.
Additionally, the mischievous part might also present leaking. Combine that with a spark that could result from your impact and you have a chance to go out kicking and screaming in a ball of flame.
To prevent this from happening, Ford will start a recall campaign on the 22nd of April. All 3.037 vehicles will be inspected and, if the need arises, the fuel tanks will be replaced. And it is all done free of charge. All that is required is you present the vehicle to your car dealer.
Until then, drive safely and try to avoid combustion outside the engine, it’s not good for your health.
