It seems that the R version of the new Volkswagen Golf VII is getting more and more in our attention with new details surfacing today on the Internet.
We’ve already seen several spy shots with the sportier Golf, this time we meet the first assumptions regarding the engine range. Under the bonnet, we are very likely to see a 2.0-liter TSI engine producing 286hp and 379Nm of torque.
These resources combined with a dual-clutch transmission and a Haldex all-wheel drive system should provide a 0-100 km/h sprint in around 5 seconds with a top speed limited at 250 km/h.
Fuel economy figures are estimated at 40,4mpg UK, which is about 7lt/100km, quite impressive numbers to be honest. These figures are available thanks to the model’s MQB platform and its low total mass of just 1,200 kilograms. The all-new Volkswagen Golf R is expected to hit the stage at the Frankfurt Motor Show later this year.
This means that the German hatchback will go on sale in Europe starting next year.
