The engineers from Audi Motorsport had the difficult task to prepare the racing version of the Audi R8 for the 2012 season considering the impressive achievement of the outgoing model. This is why Audi choosed to upgrade the racing model instead of bringin a completely new model in the game.
This is how the Audi R8 LMS Ultra was born, a 100% pure racer able to compete at the highest level possible. Under the bonnet we find a 5.2-liter V10 able to deliver 570 horsepower thanks to an improved exhaust system and new race catalytic converters.
Other features of the model include adjustable dampers from Bilstein, new 12-inch alloy wheels fitted with 30-65/18 Michelin tires and also new doors made of CFRP. The main goal of the German company was to reduce the mass of the model, that’s why they used carbon fiber reinforced plastic for the model’s doors.
“Our customer teams provided us with valuable suggestions and stated the wishes for the various fields in which the car is used. We analyzed them, and subjected the R8 LMS to further development in many details,” said Werner Frowein.
