It may be the time to go shopping for Christmas presents but don’t take the kids with you or even the car you haul them in.
Well, at least not if you have a Chrysler minivan. If you own a Chrysler minivan you may want to avoid it yourself for a while.
Want to know why? Because Chrysler has announced that about 370.000 units of their Town and Country will be needing a visit to your local dealer for a crucial safety fix.
Given the Dodge Grand Caravan being the same car underneath, the recall includes models of it in the same total number.
The problem with the minivans is related to the airbags. Weirdly, it’s not a flaw that prevents them from working, it’s one that has them working rather too well.
Because some 2008 Chrysler Town and Country tend to have water leaks, the liquid may end up dripping onto the airbag deployment module. This means one simple thing. In the event of too much dripping going on your airbags may go off without reason.
Since being hit by an airbag is a potentially dangerous situation, and a quite costly one, Chrysler and Dodge dealers will be ringing owners up and inviting them over for a free service.
Oh, and in case any of you is interested in the precise number of Dodge and Chrysler minivans involved in this recall it’s 367.350.
