Possibly one the best hot hatch superminis out there you can buy the Fiat 500 Abarth is coming to the United States.
The headline is catchy and impressive but once you read the fine print you find out that there’s a lot more to be said about this whole thing.
First of all, the entire Fiat 500 lineup has been pushed back despite efforts on that corporate dealership done by Chrysler.
Moving further than that we find that Americans will also get a chance at the Fiat 500 BEV. This means that you’ll get a basic petrol powered Fiat unit in a few months, an electric powered 500 in about a couple of years and then you’ll be seing the Fiat 500 Abarth at your local dealer.
Sadly, that means that the Fiat 500 Abarth will have an U.S. release date somewhere around 2012-2013. With rumors on the arrival of the BEV version being pushed back considerably more we find that 2013 is the year with the better chance of a Fiat 500 Abarth launch.
That’s what I’d call problematic, the Fiat 500 Abarth is a great little car but if it hits the states about 7 years after it’s first release on the European Market it might be slightly outdated. Who knows, perhaps the SS version will make up for that technicality.
