The new Abarth 500C from Fiat will go on sale in Italy in the next few days and, soon after, the rest of Europe will get to enjoy it.
To this intent, Fiat have released some photos of the “dirty” little cabriolet to those of us who’ll have to wait a bit more.
What’s even more interesting then the actual car is the presentation Fiat officials made for the Abarth 500C which claims that customers will mostly come from the male population looking for a relatively affordable cabrio with some punch. But that’s not all, Fiat claims that the new open-topped car was also made to appeal to women customers “who seek design and elegance but also appreciate the performance of a true sports car.”
I’m going to allow myself to go against their presentation and say that this car will be sold to people interested in style, getting there on time and who have a taste for retro fads. And that’ll be no matter the sex of the person driving around in it.
The Abarth 500C offers up a choice of two colors for the electrically operated rollover canvas top (black or titanium gray) but as an optional premiere there’s a couple of two-tone paintworks for the body (racing black and white or two tones of gray).
Since this is an Abarth model and not your typical Fiat there’s no diesel under that bonnet, oh no, it’s a 1.4 turbocharged four-cylinder engine that developes 140 horsepower and should you make use of the overboost function you’ll have 206Nm of torque at your disposal. Mating such power to a standard six-speed automated manual gearbox with paddle shifters will enable you to get from 0 to 62 in 8.1 seconds and will get you to 127 mph before topping out.
