The American car maker has disclosed information on the engine it will be using in the 2014 Fusion model, the 1.5 liter EcoBoost.
The power output of the unit is at 178 Hp and 240 Nm between 1.500 and 4.500 rpm.
This new 1.5 liter EcoBoost engine will be replacing the 1.6 liter in the next Ford Fusion that uses a six speed automatic gear box. This decision was made keeping in mind that the 1.5 is just as powerful as the 1.6, but with a lower power peak than the 1.6, which delivers maximum power at 2.500 rpm.
The 1.5 liter EcoBoost will be built in Romania, at the plant in Craiova, and will feature an aluminium block and twin independent variable camshaft timing. Apart from the 1.5 and 1.6 liter EcoBoost engine, the 2014 Ford Fusion will also offer buyers the option of two more engines, the 2.5 liter four cylinder unit that delivers 175 Hp and a 2.0 liter EcoBoost that is capable of 240 Hp.
