I remember how a few years back I started laughing at the idea of how GM were re-branding Daewoo products into Chevrolet ones.
This didn’t seem to clash with the idea at General Motors and the Americans keep on hitting it home with the name change.
And in reading the latest announcement we’ve reached a simple conclusion, it is now the turn of the Koreans to laugh just as much as I did. That’s because the Daewoo name will now die at home in South Korea.
It’s not really a sad moment in car history because while Chevrolet never really made that much of a great car, Daewoo products were almost entirely rubbish.
Once the Koreans get adjusted to the idea, GM will send in all of the troops it has in the Chevrolet army and they will revolutionize everything.
In truth, they will just change some old cars with some slightly newer ones wearing a different name. It will still take quite some time before the Chevrolet brand will bring in the Camaro, Orlando, Spark and Aveo everywhere.
According to Mike Arcamone, President and CEO of GM Daewoo the name change process should be completed by the end of the first quarter of 2011.
