While vehicle models have a relatively short life span, the platforms underneath them tend to live on for longer.
So whenever a manufacturer announces a new platform, it basically means that the models it will spawn have the possibility of being fundamentally different from the previous.
Recent news point toward Infiniti developing a new platform in collaboration with Daimler, with the earliest model using it coming as soon as 2017. We have no details of this first model nor on the ones that will follow, but at least four of them will be using this particular platform, with one being a crossover.
It will be interesting to see exactly what Infiniti has planned for their new platform. Also, will this mean that they are replacing an older platform or just expanding their car lineup? We will keep an eye out to see how this pans out.
