KG Mobility (former SsangYong) has set its eyes on hydrogen engines. This strategic shift is in line with the world’s shift from fossil fuels to cleaner sources of energy and innovation. The general trend of the automaker of the Southeast Asian country is that it is all set to come out with an engine that will have a range of more than 500 km, a major leap in hydrogen technology.
This initiative was launched under MOTIE, the program managed by Korea’s Ministry of Industry and Energy. The purpose of the project will be to increase the rate of transition to low-carbon technologies and a shift to the use of renewable energy sources, focusing on hydrogen as one of the effective means of the future energy industry. To that point, the impressive and remarkable challenge will not only help KG Mobility in terms of environmental impact but also place it on the map of companies that will shape the level of the hydrogen economy in the future.
To achieve this vision, KG Mobility has aligned with Phinia Delfi, which is an organization that has an excellent reputation for hydrogen technology. Collectively, they are designing a 2.0-liter compression ignition engine that is somewhat similar to diesel but runs on hydrogen. In this, the company benefits from Phinia Delphi’s sophisticated technologies, such as the injection equipment and control units, to enhance the power and performance of the engine.
It is the desire to design an engine that can be used in economic machinery, cars, and other automotive systems besides being as efficient as it can be and environmentally friendly rather than conventional combustion engines. There is every likelihood that such a technology can go a long way in improving vehicle efficiencies in all forms of vehicles, big and small, trucks, vans, etc, and everything in between, by lowering emissions as well as improving fuel efficiency.
Alas, until now, there is no accurate information on when KG Mobility plans to introduce this revolutionary engine, however, the partnership with Phinia Delphi is a clear hint at the advancement of hydrogen technologies. This can be considered not only a reflection of the company’s idea to continue with the development of new technologies but also a speculation about the increasing popularity of hydrogen power.
The advancement of the automobile industry with a focus on the creation of hydrogen engines by KG Mobility serves to be a good advancement in the attempt to produce efficient and environmentally friendly means of transport. Thus, the MOTIE project and cooperation with Phinia Delphi grant KG Mobility great potential and knowledge to become the pioneers of the automotive technology evolution and a changemaker on the way to a future environmentally friendly world.
