According to a new report issued by Aussie auto magazine Motoring, Mercedes-Benz is working on a new AMG sedan flagship which is said to arrive in 2019 as the direct competitor of the new Porsche Panamera.
Even if the company has not confirmed the news, Moers has yet hinted that such a model is still a future opportunity. “All rumors are not necessarily wrong,” he stated.
However, once it will arrive, such a high-end model would eventually complete the AMG`s high-performance lineup. The same Moers has also added:
“We are so fully loaded with work, expansion of the portfolio things like that,” Moers commented. “So it (a Black Series) needs dedication to do such a car. The GT R was a lot of dedication. As you can imagine lifecycle-wise regarding next generation (GT) is something we are working on, so there must be room for us to do so. Maybe that is a self-fulfilling prophecy, expanding the portfolio, doing a lot of work, maybe that means we don’t have enough room to do a Black Series.”
Once it will arrive in 2019, the all-new Mercedes-AMG sedan would be named GT4 and would sit on the company`s new MRA architecture, also underpining other hot models from the C-, E- and the S-Class. This means that the model would make extensive use of aluminum or high-strength steel, making it easier and increasing its performance.
Besides the a new sedan from Mercedes-AMG, the company is also planning the introduction of model called so far ”Project One”, which will be officially displayed at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show, in September. This will be another major project, as it will be offered with a massive 1,000 horsepower onboard, eventually becoming ”the most fascinating two seater that will ever hit the road.”
