At the high end of the luxury market we often find car makers refer to their most aptly designed and fitted cars as road-going yachts.
The idea of this much luxury sounds impressive but why not showcase just how good you can be with real yachts rather than simply associate some products with them.
It’s an idea we saw from design studies for Audi, then the crazy Lamborghini one and the more restrained BMW option.
Mercedes have been known to collaborate on speedboats with their AMG division but this is the first time they’re looking to a move into the S Class division of the party.
Their effort is called the Granturismo, which further increases the confusion of the water-road crossbreed. Just in case that wasn’t enough the name of the sidekick Mercedes chose is historic.
The Granturismo will be developed and built with help from project partner, UK-based Silver Arrows Marine. Hmm, could have sworn Silver Arrows is what somebody else thinks of when talking Mercedes.
This new 14 meter Silver Arrow went on display at the Monaco Yacht Show and apparently things have been so well sorted that production will happen next year.
In terms of actual usage, the new Mercedes yacht will mainly serve as a day event host. There are sleeping accommodations on board as well.
That said, they’re more likely to serve the purpose of a high end “back seat” rather than full fledged bedroom when out on the waters.
