The Germans from Mercedes-Benz officially announced that they began production of the new A-Class.
The new Mercedes A-Class debuted few months ago at the Geneva Motor show and is scheduled to arrive in the European dealerships later this year. On the other hand, the American customers need to wait extra few months as the model will arrive in the States in 2013.
According to Dr Dieter Zetsche, Head of Mercedes-Benz, the new model will be produced at the Rastatt plant in Germany. The company builds the model’s bigger brother, namely B-Class, at the same factory.
“This start of production marks a further milestone in our Mercedes-Benz 2020 growth strategy. The A-Class represents our offensive in the compact segment,” says Mercedes-Benz.
The engine range available at debut starts with an entry-level 109-horsepower engine and tops with a more powerful 211hp unit. Pricing starts from €23,978 in the home market.
