Thanks to the folks at Auto, Motor und Sport, we got some new and fresh details on the next-generation Audi A3, a model which is scheduled to enter the market somewhere next year. As we all know, the German company previewed the new A3 with the e-Tron concept at the Shanghai Auto Show earlier this year. According to the German magazine, the production version will get many features presented on the A3 e-Tron concept.

To begin with, the new Audi A3 is very likely to come in four different variants, namely a three-door A3 and a Cabriolet version, both models getting a wheelbase of 2,59 meters and a length of 4,26 meters.

The other two versions of the new A3 will be a five-door Sportback and a four-door sedan, both models benefiting from a larger wheelbase of 2,63 meters and a length of 4,44 meters.

In terms of engines, the 2012 Audi A3 should get a new 1.4-liter petrol engine able to develop 138 horsepower along a three-cylinder diesel unit and also a model using natural gas. The 1.4-liter petrol engine will get the cylinder deactivation technology able to shut down two cylinders in certain conditions which will result in a better fuel economy.
