As we all know, the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) is the entity responsible for both a lot of good and also a lot of frustration.

Overall, I believe they are working towards a safer driving environment, even if at times they seem out to get certain categories of drivers or a particular car maker.

Latest news indicate that the NHTSA is gearing up to introduce some strict regulations regarding tire aging. Of course, such regulations are already in place for most vehicle categories, yet the organization still feels that tire wear is a big factor in a lot of accidents.

I am not going to say that they are wrong, but to be completely honest, it’s not really the regulations that need to be upped, but rather the way they are enforced. The foreseeable result of this action will mostly reflect on the not so wealthy car owner who will be heavily taxed for not affording new tires.
