Alongside the 208 GTi, Peugeot have also scheduled another 208 derived model for a Paris Motor Show debut. That’ll be the 208 XY version.
So what is the XY version? Well, unsurprisingly it’s not the male chromosome award they’re going for here. The XY is a Peugeot 208 meant to complete the GTi.
Whereas the earlier announced brother is aggressive and performance oriented, the XY is a posh version aimed at luxury and comfort.
The highlights here don’t include light, performance, high end turbocharging and sporty chassis but stuff like the unique “Purple Night” metallic finish.
There’s even talk about some chrome bits for the exterior, some new trim inside and a premiere nobody has ever heard of… 17 inch alloy wheels. Classy.
Actually, while I may mock, the 208 XY really is an attractive proposition for those who want to be cosseted in style.
I’m struggling to think of anybody who wouldn’t like the panoramic glass roof, the ambiance or the quite clever infotainment system on offer.
It comes with a 7 inch touch screen, satellite navigation, a cracking stereo, can call up a reversing camera and even park the car for you automatically.
The interior gets Alcantara, the pedals are made from aluminium and there are several customization options available at dealers.
You know what, forget the 208 GTi, this XY model seems like a much more tempting buy, even if you have it with a diesel engine.
Ok, may have gone overboard on that one but you can have it with a 1.6 turbocharged petrol that’s good for 155 horsepower which should be more than enough fun, especially with the 6 speed manual.
