If it’s fun you’re looking for but you have no interest in breaking the bank on a purchase, all you need to do is go to the French.
For a decently small amount of money, they’ll hook you up with a pocket rocket like you wouldn’t believe. All the fun, without too much of a spilling.
What happens however when you want to go over the fun a little and go see what you can do with a car’s speed and your ability to handle that.
Well, once again, you head off to the French. They’ll get you on your way with one of these Peugeot 208 R2 ready to rally hatchbacks.
Forget the 208 GTi, this is a properly setup racer. It costs $75.227 U.S but you’re effectively getting a ready to race rally car.
That’s not a small amount of money but in terms of racing, that’s quite the bargain. In terms of serious specs here’s what happening:
We’re looking at a 1.6 liter engine with 185 horsepower and 140 pound-feet of torque teamed to a sequential five speed gearbox to drive the front wheels.
The body shell itself loses some 40 kg. Further more, the French pretty much empty out the interior of everything and instead fit a rollcage, racing buckets and a fire suppression system.
As always with a racing version of a street car, the brake setup was upgraded, the suspension was replaced by a revised Ohlins setup and so were the wheels and tires.
In a few days, the Peugeot 208 R2 turnkey rally racer will debut during the Tour de Corse.
