This year, the Pikes Peak hill climb challenge will be visited by a lot of cars which were either specially prepped for this event, production models and pretty much anything in between.
And the most weird contestants are in the Open category, which is exactly where you will find the Freightliner Cascadia truck driven by Mike Ryan.
A lot of work and modification went into building this machine, and somewhere along the line it stopped being a Freightliner and became a real Pikes Peak beast. Under the hood it sports a 14 liter Detroit Diesel 60 engine that uses two injection system and runs on a 50/50 mixture of water and methanol.
While the exact number the horses pushing this truck forth is not know, estimates place a 400 Hp increase over the standard output. Even though a lot of lightweight materials have been used on the truck, like fiberglass panels, it still weighs close to 5 tons, so the big power increase will be quite a blessing.
