As I’m sure you’ve heard of by now, the Swedish company called Saab is so far down the financial decline route that just about everybody is declaring them permanently dead. But are they?

Apart from living on forever in the company’s diehard fans, the Saab 9-3 will get to rumble again, as a racing car.

Thanks to some loving hearts and a lot of engineering effort, the Saab 9-3 will soon race in the Swedish Touring Car Championship again (now known as Swedish Elite Racing Championship).

Saab can’t really flip the bill for such a big motorsport project, come to think of it, they couldn’t really flip any bill right now, so other people had to get to work.

The teams running the Saab 9-3 racer are called Flash Engineering and Team Tido. Flash Engineering are also the guys that actually developed the racing car as part of their dream to see Saab vs Volvo on a circuit again.

Financing for the project will come from a load of sponsors and the Saab 9-3 racer will also be backed by the Saab Dealer Organization.

Driving of the new Saab 9-3 racer will be handled by Jan “Flash” Nilsson, Mattias Andersson and Linus Ohlsson. The fourth driver is for the moment missing in action.

Testing will commence next week but we’re not told where this will take place. We expect to hear more after the testing and maybe even some actual specs on the Saab 9-3 racer.

I don’t know about the rest of the contenders but if I were the Volvo S60 racer I’d start getting slightly worried about my competition.
