The age when the center dashboard of a car was comprised by many buttons and dials and maybe even some gauges is over.
Most new cars (premium ones at least) come with a center display and either a simple controller or touch screen.
This makes it easier for drivers to control the plethora of features a car comes equipped with. Unfortunately, displays are restricted by technology to a rectangular shape, which leaves little room for design. Well, not anymore, as Sharp comes out with their IGZO displays.
Named after indium gallium zinc oxide, elements used in the manufacturing process, the IGZO display is able to take pretty much any shape, giving car makers more freedom to play with the interior design. The new tech also brings some nice improvements in performance, with smaller pixels, faster electron movement and so on. And while car makers are an obvious client, the IGZO display will surely have plenty of business outside the industry.
