The Germans at Mercedes shortened the wait and unveiled the new GLA crossover prior its world premiere at the Frankfurt Motor Show. The new model measures 4417mm long, 1804mm wide and benefits from a luggage space of 421 liters or 836 liters with the rear seats down.
In terms of styling, the new GLA takes a lot of design cues from the A-Class model but benefits from more prominent bumpers, larger wheels, a dual-pipe exhaust and roof rails.
Power will be provided by a 1.6-liter petrol unit producing 156 horses and a 2.0-liter with 211 horsepower averaging 7,1 liters/100km.
Opt for a diesel engine such as a 2.2-liter 136hp unit and you will obtain fuel economy figures as low as 4,3 liters/100km or 54,7mpg US. More power is provided by the 220 CDI model with a 2.2-liter 170-horsepower unit.
The most potent petrol model, namely the Mercedes GLA 250 with 211hp, makes the 0-100 km/h sprint in 6,5 seconds with a top speed of 233 km/h. UK buyers will be able to order the new GLA later this year with the first models to be delivered in 2014.
