When LED lights first came on the market, they were more of the tuner’s choice or at the very best a luxury optional feature.
Now the lights are commonplace in vehicles, and we should be thankful for that, as the LEDs are far superior to normal light bulbs.
“LED lights last much longer and use less energy than traditional halogen bulbs used in most vehicles,” stated Martin Davis, talking about the new Cadillac ELR electric vehicle. As GM put it, the new model “will be the first electric vehicle introduced with all-LED exterior lighting”.
While the novelty of this announcement might make some waves, fact is that Mercedes have already accomplished this on standard vehicles. Yet the decision is a sound one, if only for an energy saving reason, which is crucial on an EV. With so much pressure applied toward energy saving nowadays, it shouldn’t come as a surprise if more car makers will start using all-LED lighting instead of standard bulbs.
