The Japanese people from Toyota announced that the all-new Aqua hybrid model received over 60,000 pre-orders even that the company expected to sell around 12,000 units per month. The new Toyota Aqua is a hybrid model which is known globally as Prius C and entered the Japanese market on December 26.
Under the bonnet sits a 1.5-liter four-cylinder unit offering 74 horsepower at 4,800 rpm and 111 Nm of torque together with an electric motor offering around 60 horses and 169 Nm of torque. The Japanese model benefits from a CVT transmission for a 0 to 100 km/h sprint in 10,7 seconds.
Of course, the fuel consumption figures are the most important in case of a hybrid model. The new Aqua returns an average consumption of 2,8 liters/100 km which is 83,3 mpg US.
The model debuted at the 2011 Tokyo Motor Show earlier this month and will enter all the important markets in the coming weeks. The pricing starts from around $22,000 for the entry level model while the top-of-the-range version can exceed $24,000. More details regarding the availability of the Prius C to be released soon.
