Toyota Prius will have a hard time in the United States starting next month, as its direct competitor, the all-new 2017 Hyundai Ioniq has been recently announced on the local market with very competitive prices.
The South Korean carmaker released the all-new 2017 Ioniq lineup last year and now it is making its presence in the US, with two of its three variants – the Hybrid as well as the electric variant.
Prices start from $22,000 MSRP in the entry-level Hybrid and can go all the way up to $32,500 MSRP in the all-electric`s Limited trim. Full pricing details are listed in the media gallery below.
The carmaker has also offered some of the most important features that the Ioniq range in the United States. For instance, the entry-level Blue is offered with a 1.6-liter petrol and an electric motor, both generating a total of 146 horsepower, being sent to the wheels via a six-speed dual-clutch transmission.
The Sell and Limited trim are also equipped with the same 1-6-liter petrol burner but with a higher battery pack of 8.9 kWh unit, for a total of 139 horsepower. We are dealing here with a 60 horsepower electric motor.
On the other hand, the all-electric version is offered with a drivetrain developing a good 118 horsepower, also thanks to a 28 kWh lithium-ion battery, providing the Electric a range of around 124 miles, and an EPA estimation of 136 MPGe.
