Officially announced last year in October, the all-new 2018 Volkswagen Atlas is ready to welcome a new sibling in the shape of the Atlas Weekend edition, which will be officially unveiled at the 2017 Chicago Auto Show in a couple of days.
We are looking here at an improved limited-run edition of the present Atlas SUV, meaning that it will receive more amenities in terms of design and interior features. Otherwise, in terms of safety gizmos and powertrains under the hood, the Atlas Weekend remains pretty much the same.
As the name suggests, the 2018 Atlas Weekend is the perfect ride to be taken for outdoor activities during weekends, the SUV coming with some extra goodies, like a new Urban Loader cargo box, 18-inch Prisma alloy wheels finished in anthracite grey, carrier bars for different accessories – bikes, kayaks, snowboards – window and hood deflectors, privacy cargo cover, wheel locks and much more.
Inside, the interior features rather the same gizmos like the standard Atlas, yet adds heavy-duty trunk liner with seat-back coverage, all-weather rubber mats, and a suite of high-tech gadgetries – Media Control system with Wi-Fi technology, Android and iOS tablets connectivity, MirrorLink, Fender Premium Audio System and so on.
The safety features are the same borrowed from the 2018 Volkswagen Atlas – Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC); Forward Collision Warning and Autonomous Emergency Braking (Front Assist); Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Traffic Alert; Lane Departure Warning (Lane Assist), and Parking Steering Assistant (Park Assist).
In the engine deparment, we see the same 3.6-liter VR6 engine with 276 horsepower and eight-speed transmission, hooked to a high-performance 4Motion all-wheel drive layout with Drive Mode Select.
