The Germans from Volkswagen took advantage of the 32nd International Vienna Motor Symposium which is currently taking place in the capital of Austria to announce that by 2013, few models within the range will benefit from a new powertrain described as “the best of both worlds”, namely a plug-in hybrid system.
Volkswagen omitted to tell us exactly what models will benefit from a plug-in hybrid version but there is a big chance for the current Golf generation to get a eco-friendly version considering the Golf Twin Drive PHEV unveiled few years ago.
The Germans claimed that plug-in hybrid models within the range is a must mainly considering that this is the future technology and the task of the century for the automotive industry. The future eco-friendly models bearing VW’s badge will provide the same performance as a model using conventional engines but will dramatically reduce the CO2 emissions and will also provide a good driving range.
At the same event in Vienna, Volkswagen introduced two new engine, the 1.4-liter TSI developing 158 horsepower and the 2.0-liter TDI which offers 138 horses. The photo gallery attached to this article presents the VW Golf plug-in hybrid we talked above.
