The high-performance R version of the seventh-generation VW Golf is finally here. Powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder unit producing 300 horsepower and 380Nm of torque, the German model sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in 5,1 seconds with a manual transmission.
Opt for the six-speed DSG unit and the figures are improved to 4,9 seconds, while fuel economy is rated at 7,1 liters/100 km (manual) and 6,9 liters/100km (automatic).

The extra power squeezed from the 2.0-liter unit comes from new exhaust valves, a turbocharger, improved cylinder heads and high-pressure injection valves.
At the exterior, VW provides 18-inch alloy wheels, LED taillights, bi-xenon headlights, an improved suspension and a quad-pipe exhaust with a chrome finish.

Inside, buyers will find Alcantara trim, leather upholstery, a new infotainment system and several other sporty features. Pricing for the 2014 Volkswagen Golf R starts at €38,325 with the first models to be delivered later this year.
