Volkswagen has great news for Golf enthusiasts. They are currently developing new carbon fiber roofs for their Golf range.
Not much is really known about this new project of the German car maker, as some problems are still awaiting solutions.
Wolkswagen is currently trying to figure out how to design and build a set of waterproof joints to use for sealing the roof to the rest of the body and the windshield. Once that is figured out, the carbon fiber roof is expected to shed up to 9 kg on the Golf.
The models that will sport this new feature or even the price are unknown, but the roof will make sense on the more sporty versions of the Golf like the R or GTI, as the reduced weight will add to the performance. But considering that fuel efficiency will also be improved, any Golf model is on the table.
Until more details are unveiled on this project, we have only this information to go on. I don’t think it is quite enough to make an informed decision, but surely in the near future we will hear more from Volkswagen.
