Almost every top automaker from the auto industry has a hardcore division ready to take the stock rides and transform them into something even more standout. Take for instance BMW`s Alpina or Mercedes-Benz`s Brabus, and these are just some examples that come out of my mouth.
The Swedish carmaker Volvo has also created strong and reliable models, coming with imposing body styling and sheer performance under the hood. Not to mention that they were one of the first to introduce the autonomous driving technology on its top models.
But just like Alpina or Brabus, Volvo also has its own hardcore division, and that is Polestar, always there to add some other fine bits on the factory models. And one of the latest to receive the special Performance Package from Polestar are the Volvo S90 and Volvo V90.
The package was first introduced to the Volvo XC90 back in 2015 and is now making its way to the S90 and V90, and that because the models stand on the carmaker`s newly introduced SPA architecture, which allows heavy mechanical modifications. Polestar CEO, Niels Moeller, better explains the reason for fitting the package on the models.
“We continue to enhance the performance of Volvo’s new, class-leading SPA vehicle architecture and Drive-E powertrains. The S90 and V90 already offer excellent driving dynamics, and we are delighted to raise the performance level even further with Polestar Performance Optimization.”
The Volvo S90 and V90 use a D5 Power Pulse diesel which normally develops 235 horsepower and 480 NM of torque, but with the new Polestar Performance Package, both engines are now producing 240 horsepower and 500 Nm of torque. You may think it is not much, but it surely counts when accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h. Unfortunately, we do not have the performance figure yet.
