Yamaha is certainly not reinventing the wheel with their electric bike concept, neither in drive solution or overall styling.
Still, their PES1 concept is a thing to behold, and should it ever reach production, it will be a great machine.
Revealed at the Tokyo Auto Show, the manufacturer presented a few key features about their PES1 Concept, along with a nice video of the bike in action. Sporting a brushless DC Smart Power Module motor, Yamaha deemed fit to install a transmission to match.
While you have the standard automatic mode most electric motors enjoy, the bike maker also offers riders the option to manually shift. The effect might not be quite satisfying, though, as an electric motor won’t make the distinctive revving noise so many bikers enjoy.
The battery pack can be easily replaced should the case require it, and even a smartphone integration was announced for the model. While the Yamaha PES1 concept might only serve as a study and display of where the manufacturer is headed, you can still enjoy the video below, in the hopes something like it will actually see the assembly line.
